The votes have been counted in the e-voting following the Additional Annual General Meeting of EFÍA, the FÍA Pension Fund. Pension Fund: Additional Annual General Meeting
An Additional Annual General Meeting of EFÍA, the FÍA Pension Fund, will be held at the FÍA premises, Hlíðarsmári 8, Thursday 14. February at 12:00.
There has been an increasing demand that members of the fund have more say in selecting who sits on the board of Pension Fund. The Pension Fund board, along with the board of FÍA, have taken the matter under review and have now submitted a proposal to change the bylaws regarding the selection of board members.
The proposal states that instead of FÍA’s board selecting three board members for the Pension Fund, and three reserve members, the Pension Fund members themselves will vote their board members directly.
According to the proposals, each seat will be occupied for the duration of two years. One year two board seats and one reserve seats will be voted on, and the second year one seat and two reserve seats.
The proposals will be introduced and explained in the Additional Annual General Meeting on Thursday, 14. February, following which there will be an e-voting on the proposals over a period of one week.
See more on EFÍA’s website (in Icelandic).
If the proposals are approved, the first election for the board of EFÍA will be held this spring, in the Annual General Meeting of 2019, where two seats and one reserve would be voted on. The board of FÍA would nominate one Board Seat and two reserves for a duration of one year, that would then be voted on in 2020.
Deadline for submitting candidacy
The deadline for submitting a candidacy for the Board of FÍA is 7. February, 2019. Those who wish to announce their candidacy must do so via email to FÍA's General Manager at lara@fia.is
During this year's Annual General Meeting, FÍA members will elect a Vice-President and three Members of the Board. Given the current combination of FÍA's Board, the three board seats can not go to Icelandair pilots, according to Article 16 of FÍA's Bylaws. If a new Vice-President were to be elected, who does not work for Icelandair, then one of the three seats on the Board can go to Icelandair.
Candidates will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and what they stand for in FÍA's newsletter, which will be published before the Annual General Meeting.
The Annual General Meeting of the Icelandic Airline Pilots Association will be held at Grand Hótel, 28. February, 2019, 20:00-23:00.
No aviation accidents in 2018
The Icelandic Research Committee for Transportation Accidents (IS. Rannsóknarnefnd samgönguslysa or RNSA) has released its report for aviation incidents in 2018, stating that for the first time in almost half a century no aviation accidents were registered in Iceland.
The RNSA looked further into 37 of the 2,984 occurrences reported, registering 19 as serious enough to warrant a formal investigation. 18 cases turned out to be minor incidents and were redifined as such.
Drone sighting guidelines
Drones can be useful, as well as fun toys, but the increase of drone use can be quite troublesome when it coms to air traffic, as pilots are well aware of.
The Drone Sighting Guidelines, developed by BALPA and GATCO, are quite useful and can be seen here below. For further information and discussion, check out ECA's website here.
